Sale of tickets for the ICC World Twenty20 cricket tournament, which begins in September, will commence on Monday for Sri Lankan nationals, and from March 30, worldwide.
At a glittering ceremony at the Galle Face Green, the official sale of tickets was launched.
The ICC said it had streamlined ticket sales in view of the problems last year. “We have centralised the management of control of tickets. Now a global agency called ticketmaster will handle [it],” said ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat.
The idea was to make tickets affordable and accessible, he said and added that tickets were available for as low as 25 cents. All ticket sales will be monitored by the ICC.
There is a limit on how many tickets a person can buy: six tickets for all group stage matches, and four tickets for Super 8 match days, the semifinals and finals. As much as 80 per cent of the tickets will be on sale.
Tickets can be bought at www.icc-cricket.com or (if a person is travelling to Sri Lanka as part of a tour), details of approved tour operators can be accessed at www.icctravel.net.
Seats for the disabled
Seating has been provided for wheelchair users too. These seats can be purchased via the internet or from MoneyGram/Box Office outlets.

Asked what new systems were put in place post the Nupur Mehta episode, Lorgat said the ICC followed all the leads that it picked up. He assured that all protocols and procedures that the ICC engaged globally from an anti-corruption point of view would be in place for the tournament.
